Renewable energy accounts for as much as more than 50 percent of the energy produced in Eastern Finland, thanks largely to bioenergy. The region already has hundreds of bioenergy heating facilities and power or CHP plants of various sizes, and the use of bioenergy is still increasing.
The regional concentration of sustainable energy expertise has brought many jobs and business opportunities to Eastern Finland.
Eastern Finland is the world leader in forestry technology; two-thirds of all forestry machinery sold in Europe is manufactured in the region. The region is even home to world leading heat-retaining stove manufacturing companies.
